HBFFA Publications
Pool and Rapid
POOL AND RAPID WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN 1932. A second edition appeared in 1936. Roderick Haig-Brown refused to permitsubsequent editions in his lifetime. Sixty years later, coincidental with the twentieth anniversary of his death and the sixtieth anniversary of “Above Tide,” the Haig-Brown house in Campbell River, there isa new edition of the novel authorized by the Haig-Brown family.
The HBFFA is pleased to annouce that leatherbound copies of Haig-Brown’s Pool and Rapid are sold out. The clothbound edition is still available at a cost of $150 Cdn. This collectors dream was the last book to be published on the old lead press at Morris Printing. Proceeds go to the restoration of the historical Haig-Brown house, and various conservation projects. Interested parties should contact the club as soon as possible.

Steelhead Bee
![]()
The Steelhead Bee is the official journal of the Haig-Brown Fly Fishing Association Beginning with Volume 1 in 1977, the Bee was produced in 10 volumes until 1986. It reappeared briefly with Volume 11 in 1989, and restarted in earnest in March 1993 with No 1, Volume 12. Since then it has been published annually, with up to four issues a year.
Initially functioning as a newsletter, the Bee has become a place for members (and others) to air their views and simply indulge in writing about fishing, from any angle. Reports on club activities, such as conservation, are also included, although most club news is now directed to the Newsletter, published separately and more frequently.
A recent edition (Vol.17, No.1) celebrated publication of the special Third Edition of “Pool and Rapid” by Roderick Haig-Brown. It included articles by Valerie Haig-Brown, author Anthony Robertson, Loucas Raptis (who provided the only published interpretation of his illustrations in “Pool and Rapid”) and members Dave Lock, Pat George and Doug Pollard.
The Bee is open to anyone who wishes to have their writing or artwork in print, subject to content and Editor’s discretion. Copies of back issues may be available on request, at $3.00 each including postage.
The Steelhead Bee has been published again to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Haig-Brown Flyfishing Association.
